Ski touring and skiing off-piste have during the last years become more and more popular in Norway and in other ski destinations. If you move out of the prepared tracks or in steep terrain, it is important to know about the risk of avalanches.

About the

course

During this introduction course we focus on:

  • What is an avalanche and avalanche terrain?
  • What are typical terrain traps?
  • How do we behave in avalanche terrain?
  • What considerations should we make before starting a rescue in an avalanche?
  • How do we search for and find someone who is buried in an avalanche?
  • How do we dig them out in the most efficient way?

We provide avalanche beacon, probe and shovel from us, but if you have your own – we strongly recommend bringing.  There are small differences between them, so it is important for you to be comfortable with the one you are going to use on your future tours.

Please note that this course does not give you official certification, but is a 4-hour introduction to this subject.
