The Norwegian “Våttkort” (in translation the “wetcard”) is a certification that allows you to rent kayaks in Norway and may be useful in other countries. To get this certification you must show that you have the basic skills in controlling a kayak. If you want to learn the basics when it comes to kayaking, this is a course for you!
During the day your instructor will teach you basic and the most essential paddling techniques. You will get all our best tips and recommendation to be confident enough to start paddling on your own. We start the day on land having a look at the kayak and equipment that you need to have a safe trip. Before we launch the kayaks from the bay, we explain how to properly adjust the kayak to be comfortable while paddling. The course is combining a tour in the beautiful scenery with learning techniques along the way.
The course focus on how to:
Once we find a good place for practising, we capsize the kayak to try how to get out while turned upside down. This is the part of the course that people are normally worried about beforehand, but it turns out to be the biggest achievement of the course. The instructor will show you how to do it and be next to you when you try. After this you will feel much more confident and learn where the flipping limits are. If you would like you can also try to get back into the kayak in the water or help a friend in need.
Then back where we started the day, we can congratulate you for a successfully completed course and being qualified to get the “Våttkort”.
