Get ready for an exhilarating journey that combines breathtaking scenery with the thrill of climbing! Meet your expert guide at P2 parking in Skjeggedal, where you will be equipped with all the necessary climbing gear and receive a comprehensive briefing about your tour.

The adventure begins with a scenic 4 km stroll along the picturesque Ringedalen lake on a well-maintained gravel road. Prepare yourself for the challenge ahead as we tackle the first 1 km of the traditional Norwegian steep trail—rough but rewarding! This path leads us to the starting point of the Via Ferrata, an exhilarating climbing route that promises unforgettable experiences.

After a short lunch break to refresh ourselves, we’ll dive into the safety instructions. Rest assured, your guide will ensure everyone is ready before we embark on our climb. The Via Ferrata spans three walls, with the highest reaching an impressive 250 m. Equipped with solid steel steps from start to finish, this route is not technical if you manage the normal Trolltunga trail, you should manage the via ferrata, the resemble climbing a ladder (level C). You’ll be securely harnessed with a safety wire throughout the ascent.

As you ascend, marvel at the stunning views that unfold around you! Below, the vibrant blue waters of Ringedalsvatnet shimmer, and across the fjord, you’ll catch glimpses of the majestic Folgefonna Glacier. Your guide will share essential climbing tips and tricks to enhance your safety and efficiency during the climb.

Midway through your journey, prepare for a thrilling experience on the optional Sky Ladder, Himmelstigen— a breathtaking 50 m long climb that adds an extra dose of excitement and adrenaline! While you can choose to bypass this section, it promises to elevate your adventure and create stunning photos for your social media feeds!

Upon conquering 400 m of vertical ascent, you’ll reach the summit, where panoramic views of the steep canyon await you, including a distant view of the iconic Trolltunga. Here, we’ll pause for lunch at this hidden gem, surrounded by nature’s beauty, before embarking on the final 3 km hike to the spectacular "Troll's Tongue."

As you arrive at Trolltunga, be prepared for a moment of awe! Surrounded by fellow adventurers, you’ll be the envy of many as the helmet from your climb hangs proudly on your backpack. Our guide will facilitate a memorable photo session, capturing the perfect “needle picture” for your album.

After soaking in the breathtaking views and snapping photos, we’ll take a leisurely hike back along the main trail. Alternatively, for the adventurous at heart, the option to descend via the Via Ferrata is available. Level of difficulty: Advanced

The weather conditions and how you personally deal with heights greatly determine the level of difficulty. Please inform your guide of any medical conditions that might impact you during your tour or in an emergency.

Requirements:

  • Good physical condition
  • Minimum age to participate: 15 years old
  • Maximum weight: 120 kg
  • Minimum weight: 40 kg
  • Not suitable for people with troublesome knees or strong fear of heights
  • Minimum number of 2 participants for the tour to run

Conditions in the mountains can be unpredictable and change fast. Temperature can be deceiving as the wind plays an important role. Also think about the effects of sun, rain and snow conditions. Climbing the Via Ferrata, we usually move slower than if we hike, it is therefore a bigger challenge to stay warm during cold and wet days – especially on the hands. Every person’s perception is different, so make sure you bring clothes according to your personal needs.

A general thumb rule is: check the weather forecast, prepare for the worst conditions but do not overload your backpack, weight matters greatly when it is about saving energy. Use the onion look: layers that can easily be taken on and off.

We do not cancel tours due to bad weather. The only times we cancel is when the bad weather becomes dangerous weather. On the Trolltunga Via Ferrata this can be strong winds, thunderstorms or icy conditions. We will inform you in case of cancellation. Please read our cancellation policies for more information.

We recommend joining the information meeting at Trolltunga Hotel at 9 pm the night before your hike.
