Climb the Via Ferrata during your holiday and learn about the history of hydropower in Norway

On the Tyssedal Via Ferrata, we follow the footsteps of “rallarane” - the construction workers. They manually built the penstock in very high altitudes and harsh winter conditions along the mountain sides. The tour starts with a visit at the Norwegian Museum of Hydropower and Industry. With a short film about the history of the area and an excursion inside the former power station, it is much easier to understand all the stories and thing you see on the Via Ferrata!

After the Museum tour, we head towards the exciting climb along the five gigantic pipelines. Your guide will explain you the use of the climbing gear and give you safety instructions. Then you are ready for the challenge! While climbing the Via Ferrata, you get to better and better views over Sørfjorden, part of the Hardangerfjord and the Folgefonna National Park. Tyssedal Via Ferrata is simply the perfect way to learn about the history and at the same time enjoy incredible scenery around you.

Please note that there is a price difference between the winter and summer tours.

In Norway there is a saying that “There are no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”.  Sometimes the bad weather turns out to be the most special: It is more mysterious, it creates a spectacular light play between the sun, clouds and rain, it makes you feel alive.

The weather here on the west coast changes fast and therefore we only rely on the weather forecast 1-2 days ahead of the tour. We hope for the best but prepare for the worst conditions.  A good tip is to use the onion look: layers that can easily be taken on and off to adjust your temperature.

If the “bad weather” is so bad that we consider it as dangerous we cancel the tours. We will inform you in case of cancellation. Please read our cancellation policies for more information.
