A trip to the cabin is an integral part of Norwegian culture, embodying the dream of simple, uncomplicated cabin life where individuals can escape the everyday hustle and bustle. Experience this idyllic lifestyle at our Trolltunga Gateway Cabin, where you can immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Norway while combining an unforgettable winter tour to Trolltunga with a variety of exhilarating winter activities, culminating in a delightful dinner by the fireplace.
Your adventure begins at the Trolltunga Active Base in Skjeggedal, a picturesque village nestled in the heart of Western Norway. Here, you’ll meet your professional guide and fellow adventurers at 14:00. During the winter months, all hikes to Trolltunga commence from the P2 parking lot in Skjeggedal. Given the snowy conditions, you will need to navigate the terrain with micro spikes or snowshoes, adding a thrilling challenge to your journey.
The tour starts with a scenic 5 km uphill hike to the Trolltunga Gateway Cabin, where you can settle in and enjoy light refreshments. Afterward, immerse yourself in a range of outdoor winter activities, including ski jumping, snow racer sliding competitions, and crafting snow caves or snowmen. As night falls, gather around the fire for a hearty dinner and share stories with fellow explorers, making memories that will last a lifetime.
The next morning, your adventure to Trolltunga kicks off at 08:00. As you traverse the stunning winter landscape, prepare to be captivated by breathtaking views of the majestic Ringedalen valley, distant snowy mountains, and unique snow formations shaped by the wind. Even the simplest sandwich for lunch will taste extraordinary amid such awe-inspiring surroundings. Your efforts will be richly rewarded as you reach Trolltunga, majestically rising above the half-frozen Ringedal lake, with clouds rolling in and dancing with beams of sunlight.
Don’t miss the opportunity for a memorable photo shoot at our "Rockstar" spot on Trolltunga, where you can capture the spectacular scenery that surrounds you. The return journey is easier, primarily downhill, allowing you to reflect on the wonderful memories created along the way. You’ll arrive back at Skjeggedal around 7-8 PM, and if conditions permit, we might even use snow racers for a fun descent back to the P2 parking.
It’s essential to remember that the weather during the Norwegian winter can be unpredictable and may change at any moment. This is nature in its purest form! However, you can feel confident that your guides are well-trained in assessing mountain conditions and possess extensive experience navigating this terrain. Your safety is our highest priority. On particularly icy days, we may not guarantee safe access to the rock itself, but we will always provide alternative, equally stunning photo spots, ensuring you feel like a true explorer after this one-day expedition.

During the winter, the conditions in the mountains are unpredictable. They can change from minute to minute. Temperature can be deceiving as the wind plays an important role in how cold it feels. Similarly, the snow conditions have a great impact on how easy or hard the hike gets.
A general thumb rule is: prepare for the worst conditions but do not overload your backpack, weight matters greatly when it is about saving energy. Use the onion look: layers that can easily be taken on and off. On a sunny day remember that the snow reflects the sun light which makes it stronger – suncream and sunglasses are essential!
We do not cancel tours due to bad weather. Even if the conditions look harsh, they can also turn out to be much better once we reach the mountains. The only times we cancel is when the bad weather becomes dangerous weather. We will inform you in case of cancellation. Please read our cancellation policies for more information.
