About the activity

Join us for an unforgettable e-bike tour from the picturesque village of Ulvik to the serene hamlet of Osa, where stunning landscapes and rich history await. This adventure showcases the breathtaking beauty of Norway’s fjords and mountains while delving into fascinating stories of the region.

Starting in Ulvik, known for its charming wooden houses and vibrant orchards, we embark on a leisurely e-bike ride through farmland and the tranquil waters of the Hardangerfjord. As we pedal, you'll learn about the famous cider production in Ulvik, where the unique microclimate nurtures some of the best apples in Norway. Discover how local producers craft exquisite cider, a tradition that dates back centuries and is cherished by both residents and visitors alike.

As we ride, we’ll share tales of Olav H. Hauge, a beloved local poet and farmer whose life was deeply intertwined with the landscape. Known for his heartfelt poetry that captures the essence of life in the Hardanger region, Hauge's work reflects the beauty and struggles of rural existence.

Upon reaching Osa, we will park our bikes and continue on foot, following one of the ancient trade trails that has connected communities for centuries. This scenic path leads us through a fairytale-inspired valley, where we’ll walk alongside picturesque rivers and cascading waterfalls, all framed by steep mountains that create a breathtaking backdrop. As we traverse this enchanted terrain, feel the history beneath your feet, envisioning the merchants and travelers who once traversed these trails, carrying goods and stories between regions.

At Ossete, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch, providing a perfect moment to relax and reflect on the journey so far. Afterward, the descent back to Osa. The bike ride back to Ulvik will offer a chance to revisit the stunning views and appreciate the landscape from a new perspective.

This tour is designed for adventurers of all skill levels, combining leisurely biking with hiking, storytelling, and culinary delights, making it a rich and fulfilling experience in one of Norway’s most beautiful regions.

Weather

Even though you are visiting Norway in the summer, be aware that the weather conditions are highly unpredictable. They can change from minute to minute. Temperature can be deceiving as the wind plays an important role in how cold it feels. You might start your hike with summer temperatures in the valley and hike up the mountains where there are still big patches of snow. On rainy days low temperatures and cold winds can make the hike quite challenging, even in summer. On a beautiful day sunny day, you need to keep in mind, that you are very exposed on the mountain, make sure you prepare for hours out in the sun and stay hydrated.

A general thumb rule is: check the weather forecast, prepare for the worst conditions but do not overload your backpack, weight matters greatly when it is about saving energy. Use the onion look: layers that can easily be taken on and off.

We do not cancel tours due to bad weather. The only times we cancel is when the bad weather becomes dangerous weather. We will inform you in case of cancellation. Please read our cancellation policies for more information.

FAQ

Can I bring my dog on a guided tour?

Notify us in advance. It depends on the other guests in the group, and the guides of that tour. We also have guides with dogs, and it is important for them to know about this case in advance. This is a long hike and is not suitable for some breeds especially small dogs. The Via Ferrata tours are not for dogs.

Can I use bathroom during the tour?

No, there is no possibility during the tour. Therefore, we kindly ask you to use the bathroom before you meet your guide. There are public toilets at the tourist info, by the bus station, in the shopping mall SØRFJORDSENTERET in Odd, at Hotel Ullensvang in Lofthus, and at Brakanes Hotel in Ulvik/also restrooms by the harbour in Ulvik.

Cancellation due to bad weather. Will I get a refund?

If you choose to not show up for your tour, there is no refund. If we cancel due to the weather, you get a full refund or change to another day. This might happen due to high avalanche risk or strong winds. Please read our General Terms and Conditions for more information.

There is a minimum of 2 participants for Trolltunga Active in order to run the tour. What happens if I am the only one?

If you are the only person booked on a tour, we will ask you to move your booking to another day. If this is not possible, you will be refunded. You can wait until the evening before the hike to see if there are any last-minute bookings. Alternatively, if you really want to go and cannot reschedule, you can pay for a second ticket.

What equipment is included in the guided tours?

See the specific tour you are interested in. Each tour has in description what is included and what you need to bring.

Why to join a guided tour?

Your guides are not just signposts. They are here also to provide you a safe trip, tips and trick on hiking and outdoor life and an explanation of local fauna a flora. During the tours, they share with you a lot of stories about local history and culture, best lunch spots and viewpoints. We also should not forget about your fellow travellers – you meet new people from all over the world and create great memories. All this combined explains how a simple hike can turn into an unforgettable experience!

Where and when is the last chance to book a tour?

Last chance to book a tour is the evening before the hike before 6pm. It might be possible to book after this, but that requires enough spots available. You can still show up at the tour meeting and see if there are any free spots.
